Sweet one-year-old Darnell has already faced more challenges than most cats do in a lifetime. Born with mild cortical dysplasia (malformation of the fore brain) and a cleft nasal philtrum, this brave tuxedo boy has never let his differences dim his spirit. But last Sunday, everything changed when he suddenly began having seizures in his foster home.

Darnell was rushed to the Lynnwood Veterinary Specialty Clinic of Seattle, where he received life-saving medical care. He was dehydrated and had dangerously high glucose levels on intake. Thanks to swift treatment and IV anti-seizure medications followed by a daily regimen by our clinic team, Darnell has remained seizure-free since Sunday. On Monday, Darnell underwent anesthesia, an MRI and a spinal tap to help determine the cause of his seizures. They were thankfully able to rule out infectious disease, but he will need further testing to get to the bottom of it. Darnell is currently stable and recovering in our shelter clinic and we will continue to share updates as we receive them.

His foster dad has been nothing short of a hero through all of this by immediately alerting us so Darnell could get the emergency care he needed, and we’re keeping our paws crossed for continued improvement. But right now—we urgently need your help.

Darnell’s medical bills have already exceeded $10,000, and the Tipper Fund is what allows us to say yes to cats like him when they need specialized, life-saving care.
