Caring for Cats: Building our Future
Purrfect Pals Feline Health and Wellness Center
Help Purrfect Pals Build a New Veterinary Clinic
While the past few years have seen positive growth, Purrfect Pals continues to experience increasing demand for our services. Every expansion or addition of services needed over the last 35 years has been focused on a specific need. Our generous community of donors has responded – and with their support, Purrfect Pals become a safe haven for all cats, regardless of their needs.
Today, our highest priority is to create adequate space for veterinary clinical work for our cats and expansion of services to low income cat owners. The need for low-cost veterinary care, especially among low-income clients, is outpacing the capacity in our outdated 600-square-foot clinic. There is no dedicated space for intake exams, routine vaccines and emergency care to take place simultaneously. Our ability to expand services to serve more cats or to offer wellness services to low-income pet owners is extremely limited at this time.
Due to a rising demand for low-cost medical care, we are seeking to expand the space utilized by the veterinary team to diagnose and treat the cats in our care. A common barrier to proper veterinary care is expense, and the Purrfect Pals team has seen an increase in the number of cats with medical issues being relinquished at shelters due to their owner's inability to pay for care. Cats would be able to stay in their loving homes in many cases if we could offer some basic veterinary treatments, vaccines and wellness exams on a sliding-fee-scale model for low-income families on monthly community service days. The clinic initiative will include a physical expansion of the clinical space from the current inadequate 600 sq. feet to 2800 square feet with the addition of a lobby area and restrooms, expanded infirmary, two-table surgery suite, surgical prep, pharmacy, exam room, diagnostic lab equipment, dental equipment, office space for the veterinarian and staff, and space for the X-Ray equipment, laundry room, and staff break room currently in separate buildings.
